Studio 2 - Seascapes... From The Deep Blue Yonder:

SeascapesI love the sea as it is always a visual delight, no matter what its mood.

Whether it is a calm sunny day or a howling storm, there is always something stimulating about it. On one memorable occasion, on a sunny day, we saw rainbows appearing randomly on the waves as the wind caused spray to blow off the crests resulting in an amazing display of colour.

There is always a dynamic sense of movement and life in many forms ... contrasts of light and dark, where rocks stand out from the sea .... spray from the surf dashing against the rocks .... clouds providing atmosphere and drama .... and figures on beaches all providing perfect elements for creating interesting and captivating paintings.

Painted in the morning light from above the sea cliffs of Hermanus, Malcolm has captured the rays of the sun coming through the clouds and being reflected on the water in a way that simply takes your breath away. Need it be said, that this one-of-a-kind seascape is an investment that you cannot afford to miss out on.

Painting Title: Knysna Fisherman

In The Shade 45x30cmType: Oil on Board
Size: 650x500mm (includes frame)

History behind the Painting:What seems to capture ones attention about this painting more than anything is the raw and harsh reality in which this ‘Fisherman at Knysna’ is catching his fish. He is surrounded by rocks and is up against a mountain. He is subject to all the sea elements .... the wind wipping up the waves being dashed against the rocks. The tide possibly coming in and the rocks getting really slippery. Yet what is easy to believe is that all he is feeling is the pure exhilaration of being out there battling the elements while trying to catch fish for his family for dinner no doubt.

Painting Title: Cape Lagoon

Cape Lagoon 34x24cmType:Oil on Board
Size: 540x440mm (includes frame)

History behind the Painting:Malcolm did this painting in an art class with Dale Elliot. The technical part of this painting was that he started painting it in acrylic and then completed it in oils. However, what seems to draw you in this painting is the values placed on the light parts and the shadows, the bright spots and the more subtle hues. And then there is the idyllic setting of a lagoon among trees and mountains, with sand so soft, that you want to take your shoes off and just sink your feet into it.
