Studio 3 - Harbour Scenes... Coming and Going Harbour Scenes:

Intro-Actual-HarbourScenes.pngHarbours are a real delight for me as I spent quite a few years working on trawlers and merchant vessels. I really enjoy the drawing element involved in capturing the details on the ships.

The various shapes playing off against one another creating contrasts in line and tone showing off strong light against the darks.

There is usually lots of opportunity for colour as well. These all together provide the means to create meaningful, exciting works of art.

Painting Title: Cape Trawlers

Cape Trawlers 60x45cmType:Oil on Board
Size: 800x650mm (includes frame)

History behind the Painting: Let Malcolm find himself in a place where any kind of boat is, in a setting that he hasn't been to before, and he will more than likely paint it; and these Mossel Bay Trawlers were no exception. Having spent several years in the Merchant Navy, the challenge of accurately capturing the splendid lines and details and dreaming of far away places was all the inspiration he needed to create this lovely work of art.
